The Lineup: NETFLIX 2019

January 13, 2019 0 By Robert "CodeBreaker" Cardenas Jr

In 2019, the streaming giant known as Netflix will be facing some more competition this year when Disney starts their very own streaming service called “Disney+”, which is expected to be launched later this year. With that being said, Netflix will and has already started to lose some of its originals, including their movies. However, for the time being, let’s see what they have in store for this coming year.

Punisher Season 2 – January 18th

This is probably one of the most looked-forward-to originals produced by Netflix. Sadly, this might be the last season they will produce for the anti-hero “The Punisher”, as popular shows like “Daredevil” and “Luke Cage” have been cancelled as well. Most likely due to the upcoming Disney streaming service. Fortunately, we get one more season before Netflix pulls the plug.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 – January 18th

Episodes are expected to be release on a weekly basis, after CBS first airs them in America first. Unfortunately, Star Trek Discovery only appears on Netflix outside of the US…people here stateside will have to go through the CBS All Access app. This would be a new concept for Netflix since they usually release a full season at a time. Maybe this is a good thing for those who finish a series too fast and get stuck wondering what to watch next.

Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes – January 24th

For fans of crime shows, this might be something you be interested in. Netflix is releasing a documentary of a serial killer named Ted Bundy and go into the mind of what he was thinking. A little history of Ted he was an American serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar, and assaulted many young women and girls in the 70s.

Jessica Jones: Season 3 – March

This will be another blow to Netflix after the season drops. Despite having a 3rd season it will be to no surprise “Jessica Jones” will soon be canceled as well. But one question some people might have is: will Netflix end the series on an open end? It’s where they left off Daredevil and it was not their fault since the season was released before the cancelation announcement. Speculated release date is March 8th.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 2 – April 5th

More magical mischief will be on the way. Part 1 was a pretty big success which helped Netflix decide to pick up on Part 2. The new take on Sabrina has been a odd one, but in a good way. You still have some similarities to the older series such as the black cat, trying to live as half human and witch, and her aunt. Sabrina life about go get a whole lot more interesting after signing her name in Satan’s book.

13 Reasons Why: Season 3 – May 2019

“13 Reasons Why” really made people start talking about suicide and bullying. Along with some controversy by sharing some very graphical and very hard to watch scenes, followed by an ending where it almost got very ugly. None the less it has been a show to watch where you can learn a lot about high school bullying in all different forms. It will make you mad, it will make cry, but most importantly it will make you see things from another perspective.

Lost in Space: Season 2 – July 2019

A reimagining of the older series which for the most part follows along the same basic story plot of a family…well, lost in space. Season 1 garnered some good reviews and it gained followers partly due to nostalgia and partly due to its creative writing and acting. Netflix saw enough success to bring on a season 2 and hopefully shed light on some unanswered questions.

Stranger Things: Season 3 – July 4th

“Stranger Things” is arguably Netflix first successful original series. This summer we will see what’s in store We do know it will take place a few years after the last season and majority of the cast will be returning ready to face some new dangers. Only tip we got there may be some mind flares involved from the long running table top game “Dungeons & Dragons”. The only other thing we know are some of the episode names in season 3.

Narcos Mexico: Season 2 – November 2019

The first season was great just as the original Narcos series. Drugs, blood, sex, and a whole lot of twist and turns. Season 2 will bring much of the same, as we see the rise of one of the biggest drug lords take place in Mexico. We already witnessed a huge farm of marijuana being grown in a desert. It’s time to see where the story leads us next, and what Felix Gallardo has in store as well.

Castlevania: Season 3 – TBA

No announce date yet but we do know Castlevania will be released sometime toward then end of this year. Last we saw the trio of Trevor, Alucard, and Sypha they defeated Dracula and seem to go their own way. Danger lurks ahead as more Vampire Lords look to take over the world still. I am sure many gamers can not wait for this vampire-killing series returns for a third season.

There are plenty other shows and even movies scheduled for release, but these are the trending ones at this time. Netflix may lose out on Marvel and Disney in terms of movies/shows but they sure have no plans of slowing down anytime soon. With original series and movies earning some positive reviews, it won’t be long before Netflix starts getting some Oscar nominations. Keep an eye out for some more reviews as the year moves along. Until next time nerds!
